Maggie Zhang is a senior at Canyon Crest Academy. She realized her passion for STEM after attending a cybersecurity program during her 7th grade summer. Intrigued by the game-like nature of capture the flags, or “CTF”s, Maggie began competing in CyberPatriot. Since then, her team ranked within the top 150 Platinum teams in the nation and placed 1st in their division and 2nd overall at the SoCal Cyber Cup Challenge. In addition to cybersecurity, Maggie loves contest math and programming; she continues to explore STEM through AMC 10, AIME, USACO, ACSL, and a variety of CTFs. From her varied experiences across different STEM topics, she noticed the shortage of easily accessible, beginner-friendly STEM materials. Inspired to make an impact, she developed STEM curricula for several clubs and organizations and taught ethical hacking to over 100 local students for CyberClass, a cybersecurity program, and HTML/CSS/JS to over 50 middle school girls as the secretary of her school’s Girls Who Code chapter. Additionally, Maggie enjoys giving back to her community; from volunteering at Computers 2 Kids to refurbish computers for families in need to working to grant microfinance loans to elderly farmers in rural China, Maggie strives to make an impact on those around her. As the Vice President of Technical Operations at AoL, Maggie hopes to educate students around the world and spread her passion for STEM on a global scale.
